The Herb Society now has a comprehensive web site for schools for use in Key Stages 1 and 2.  This replaces the previous education pack for primary schools.

The Herb Society gives this list of providers for information only but does not endorse any of the courses. 


Course provider Notes
ACS Distance Education Provides a number of distance-learning courses including a number on herbs, one of which is web based.  More are planned.
The Celtic Herbalist Short residential courses given in SW France by Celtic Herbalist, Ms. AM Booth MNIMH. A mixture of wildcrafting walks, talks, workshops and demonstrations, with visits to nearby herb growers.
College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy  The College is a professional body rather than a course provider.  Courses can be found on their events page.
Grange Centre Provides the 'Growing People Project' for horticulture training to adults with physical and learning difficulties
Hadlow College, Kent Offers an HND and a BSc Hons in Medicinal Horticulture.  Link to course information.
Herbs at Walnut Herbalist and author, Penelope Ody, offers a number of one and two-day courses in Southern Hampshire on the medicinal use of herbs
Herbs for Healing Herbalist Luzia Barclay provides short courses that give an introduction to the use of Western herbs as medicines
Home Herbalist Provides a distance learning course that teaches the skills and knowledge to treat oneself, family members and and pets with herbs.
Irish School of Natural Healing Offers a four-year, part-time course in Herbal Medicine with an emphasis on the use of Irish herbs in traditional European herbalism
Learning Curve Offers short, distance-learning course on herb gardening
Leeds Beckett University Offer a 3 years full time course BSc Honours Degree in Herbal Medicine.
Middlesex University Offers BSc in Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) and BSc in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Both courses lead to practitioner status and include clinical training. Part time study available.
National Institute of Medical Herbalists Do not offer courses themselves but provide accreditation services to educational establishments.  Site lists bodies with or seeking accreditation.
International Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homoeopaths Herbal and homoeopathic school  providing distance learning, seminars/workshops and practical clinical training leading to a professional qualification and diploma.
New Vitality Tuition New provider of the "Discovering Herbal Medicine" course.   A one-year, distance-learning course introducing medicinal plants, their properties and uses. 
Scottish School of Herbal Medicine Offers a correspondence course that can be used as an access course to the BSc programme.  Link to course information.
Springfield Sanctuary Kitchen herbwife and healer, Sarah Head, offers practical herbal workshops for beginners at her Cotswold retreat. Also offers 2 year herbal apprenticeships and mentoring.

School of Intuitive Medicine    

Offers BSc in herbal medicine and diplomas in Chinese herbal medicine

One year foundation in Intuitive Herbalism.  The focus is to include as much experiential, hands on learning as possible. The ‘intuitive’ nature of the courses describes the policy of creating the space for the student to learn from the plants directly, rather than rote learning of actions/indications.
