The Annual Conference is a key event in the Society's calendar. This year we are combining the AGM with a series of lectures from experts on the general theme of gardening with herbs.

The AGM is your chance to talk to Council members about the Society and our future plans. Also feel free to talk to Council members and presenters during the breaks.

10:00 am Coffee, teas (herbal and other) and biscuits

Gardening with Herbs

11:00 am Caroline Holmes.  Designed for a Purpose - Perfumed, Potager and Poison Gardens

Caroline is a past Chairman of the Herb Society, Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Gardeners and member of the Garden Writers' Guild.  She has published many books on herbs and directed many courses in the UK and overseas.  Her garden design expertise is extensive and she is currently researching and devising the planting in the 'Poisons Garden' for the second phase of the Alnwick Walled Garden Project in Northumberland.  She is also a well-known broadcaster.

12:00 noon Lynne Tann-Watson.  Companion Planting with Herbs

Lynne first became interested in herbs in her teens while living in the Australia.  She came back to live in England in her mid 20s and went through various jobs while continuing to grow and study herbs and wild plants.  When her children were small she began growing a few herbs to sell and her little herb business grew of it's own accord.

1:00 pm Lunch.  A choice of herbal dishes and an opportunity to have a break and visit our herb garden with Cheryl Waller and Jan Greenland, Council members. Also see our new children's "Living Earth Garden" (see picture on right).  
2:30 pm Sue Minter.  Global Warming

Sue's distinguished career has included being Supervisor of the Palm House during its restoration in the 1980s, Curator at the Chelsea Physic Garden from 1991-2001 and Horticultural Director of the Eden Project from 2001-6.  She has published a number of books.

3:30 pm Barty Phillips.  History of Herb Gardening

Barty Phillips is a well-known and respected gardens and interior-design writer who edited our Herbs magazine from 2000 to 2005 and still contributes to the magazine. She was design correspondent of the Observer newspaper for 15 years and author of over 30 books on the home and the garden. She often appears on TV discussing design.

Members: £35.  Note, members my attend the AGM only for free.

Members Guests: £39.50
